Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about one hundred years old. Modern craps come about from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when exiled by the English, the French moved down south and discovered refuge in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is acquired from the term for the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
