Be smart, play cunning, and pickup craps the right way!
Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard amid a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French moved down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the losing throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and all over the country. Most consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the current craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he developed the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
