May 30th, 2022 by Adolfo

Be cunning, play clever, and become versed in craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is said to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s believed that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French moved south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and throughout the country. A few think the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he created the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
